How The Search Engines Gather And Process Information

The search engines use about four key techniques when processing your websites information.  These techniques are how the search engines determine what kind of website you have and where your website placement should be.  The four processes are as follows:

Web Site Crawlers

The search engines perform an automated update system which uses “robots” or “Spiders” to crawl your website for content and relativity.  These spiders are not on a set schedule and will crawl your website at any given time and follow your hyperlinks to gather link information of other sites that may be linking to your site or websites that you are linking too. These spiders will crawl over 9 billion websites a day to provide the search engines with crucial information related to your website.

Indexing Pages Of Your Website

In order to have the search engines find your website it has to be indexed into their databases.  As soon as the spiders crawl the pages of your website it will automatically be recorded and placed in the search engines “index” for review.  This is how the search keep track of the billions of other websites which make up the World Wide Web.

 Processing Search Queries

When someone performs a search on the internet the search engines automatically look into their index to find all the possible matches that are relevant to the topic the person is searching for.  The search engines do this by the use of keywords.  For example, if someone searches for the term “search engine optimization”, about 1,400,000 possible websites will show under those keywords.  Now if that same person searches for “search engine rankings” then about 933,000,000 million websites will show under those keywords.

Basically the search engines process all the keywords and queries and also negate some websites that do not have any relevance to the keywords you are searching for to provide you with a better search results.  This will help you find what you are looking for much faster and you do not have to waste time going to websites that have nothing to do with what you are searching for.  This is also another example of how the importance of certain key words and how they can also help with your search engine placement.

Search Engine Ranking

The search engines rank websites by using the queries that they have recorded to find out which websites are relative to that search query and then it performs a mathematical calculation which is called an algorhythm.  The equation process is used to sort out different non relevant information and place those at the last of the list and the websites that have the most relative quality content will be place higher in the search engine ranking process.
